The first shipment of vaccines arrived in Romania from Hungary on Friday afternoon, writes the Chronicle. As in several EU countries, the first round contains 10,000 doses that are used to vaccinate front-line healthcare workers in 10 hospitals. Raed Arafat, the nation’s director general for disaster management, said the next shipment is expected to arrive on December 28, with a steady supply of 140 to 150,000 a week thereafter. According to Romanian experts

relaxation can come when 60 to 70 percent of the population has already been vaccinated.

The second wave may have peaked in Romania, with fewer than 10,000 hospitals infected in October, according to data released Friday. The number of new cases is 75 percent of the average of the last two weeks, 3,812. The Romanian authorities did not take relaxing measures on Christmas, the previously imposed curfew remained in force and no midnight masses were celebrated.
