The physical spectacle will be lost here too, but the Game Developers Conference (GDC stands for Game Developers Conference and means in Hungarian) will be this summer, not spring … and this time it will be completely digital.
We already wrote in February that the GDC 2020 is the coronavirus pandemic It would have been in the summer of this year, and then in March the news came that the GDC Summer would be held from August 4-6 at the San Francisco Moscone Center in California. Organizers exploited it en bloc and opted for the safe solution: Like Gamescom (also in August), GDC is moving to a fully digital exhibition, keeping the date thus far (4-6 August).
Organizers are constantly monitoring how best to serve the game development community, and in recent months, as the world has adapted to developments, the situation has changed, but they have to put it aside so they can meet in person. Therefore, in their announcement, they announced that GDC Summer will be transformed into a purely digital program so that members of their community can receive the best service.
They think that many game developers have switched to telecommuting lately (a very good example of this is CD Project RED, that they don’t plan to postpone Cyberpunk 2077 again even if they work from home!), And many have accepted online collaboration and collaboration, The organizers have also reconsidered their plan and will make it available to everyone. GDC Summer 2020, and all you need is an internet connection. And they will be there to provide high-quality content and networking opportunities – this is what GDC participants expect. They believe that the strength of their community can inspire the gaming industry, and they will hold on to their opportunity to do so, with more details on the digital GDC to be announced soon.
The idea is perfectly legitimate: the coronavirus will probably attack with the second wave by then, and since it was also the deadliest in the case of Spanish fever …
