Enikő Bakos The judge based his decision on the fact that according to the expert opinion, Erika Renner suffered second and third degree burns, she could not support herself, as her most basic physical needs caused her difficulties and pain.

The court considered the expert opinion founded, but Krisztián Bene considered it inappropriate, because in his opinion it is not possible to prepare an expert opinion without the plaintiff being personally examined by the experts, according to the Telex article. Bene also argued that the photos of the woman’s injuries taken in 2013 and 2015 were not adequate to assess the current condition, so she requested that the expert opinion be supplemented, but the court said that there was sufficient evidence and therefore , did not order further tests.

In its decision, the court took into account that Erika Renner is still forced to face the consequences of the attack every day, and that her sense of security has disappeared and she has not been able to have another child as a result of the attack. He also assessed that Erika Renner’s femininity and sexual life had been seriously damaged as a serious handicap.

After the verdict was announced, Erika Renner told Telex that she was relieved, and although she knows she would be entitled to a much higher amount, in the Hungarian civil law system this is possible.

That’s how my body is worth in Hungary.

Erika Renner’s damages case started in December 2017, but the court stayed the damages claim pending a final trial in the criminal case.
