We are in the second wave of the virus, now we are more prepared than in the spring – said Viktor Orbán in his pre-agenda speech in Parliament on Monday. According to the prime minister, the national consultation sent a clear message: the country must work, daily life cannot be paralyzed by the virus. Government programs are not rescue packages, but investments, the prime minister emphasized.

In his speech before the agenda, Viktor Orbán said that the summer in Europe was colorful and lively. The 27 prime ministers agreed on the financial system and budget for the next 10 years, he added. The budget consists of two parts: there is a 7-year budget and a financial fund named after the next generation. Before the talks in Brussels, member states in the same position were expected to receive the same treatment in budgets for the next few years, the prime minister said. A net amount of € 31 billion will flow to Hungary, he added. This amount will significantly reduce our capital shortfall.

By 2028, we will be close to making Hungary a net contributor to the EU budget, the prime minister said. The country must generate a profit of 9.6 billion euros a year to have a positive balance based on the EU accounts. This can only be achieved by expanding Hungarian foreign investment: added. Overall, Hungary has lived up to expectations at the EU summit. Only Lithuania is ahead of us as a result of the EU negotiations.

Orbán: This is exactly what undermines the rule of law

Hungary has initiated the closure of the seven-week procedure, but we have not received any guarantee from the German presidency that this will happen, Viktor Orbán said. Hungary still has on the agenda the question of not being able to finance NGOs with EU money, he added. Hungary is committed to the rule of law, and we have stood on that basis before: Viktor Orbán said. Clear accusations without legal categories serve to undermine the rule of law. In the future, it is not possible to get money out of the country through legal blackmail.

We had to be prepared

Viktor Orbán also spoke about the fact that the Asian pandemic created a serious situation. He said it is worrying that the number of people hospitalized in Austria has increased by 35 percent in one day. There was no other option in March to give us time to prepare for medical care, he added. The country won the first battle, the Hungarian healthcare system was able to protect the people. Thanks to the doctors and nurses who serve above the force, the operational staff.

Viktor Orbán affirmed that we are in the second wave of the virus. We are better prepared now than in the spring. The national consultation sent a clear message: the country must work, daily life cannot be paralyzed by the virus, the prime minister said. Today, there is no need to worry about someone being left without proper care. Entry restrictions remain, widespread use of masks has become mandatory – said the prime minister. There will be a total ban on visits to hospitals and nursing homes, and thermometry will be mandatory in schools. Coronavirus tests are officially priced and the flu vaccine will be free.

Viktor Orbán said that According to experts, in the worst case, 200,000 people are expected to be infected at the same time, and then 16,000 people will have to be in the hospital and 800 people on a ventilator. I count twice that – added. Today, Hungary has 66,000 hospital beds, the previous command plan is in effect, explained the Prime Minister.

More than a million homes have been insured

The coronavirus is also a threat to the economy, so protecting jobs is a priority. We are now where more people worked in August than in January, the prime minister said. More than a million people have been helped with various grants, he added. There is and will be work. He also spoke of extending the loan payment moratorium until July 1, 2021. With the help of the moratorium, 1.6 million people will have their homes safe, he added.

Government programs are not rescue packages, but investments, the prime minister said. We need to grow and develop in this situation as well, which is why investment incentive programs have been launched for Hungarian companies worth 150 billion HUF. 904 investors have applied to invest 424 billion guilders, thus protecting the jobs of more than 400,000 people – the prime minister explained. Economic measures have succeeded in protecting people’s work and homes, and companies have also been strengthened, said Viktor Orbán. We are facing a difficult autumn, but we will achieve it together – concluded Viktor Orbán.
