The number of new infections registered there exceeds a thousand a day.

In the Czech Republic, 1,447 new confirmed coronavirus infections were examined by laboratory tests on Friday, 65 more than the highest number of cases the day before.

The number of new confirmed infections per day topped 1,000 for the first time on Tuesday and has been rising steadily since then. (The record has also been broken in Hungary, but we are still under a thousand).

Also at a record 12,260 people have the number of confirmed infections active. In most, however, the course of the disease remains mild.

Hospitals treat 264 people with Covid-19 disease, twice as much as a month ago; more than sixty patients are in serious condition and this number is increasing.

The death toll rose to 450.

From March 1, when the first infected person was registered in the Czech Republic, until Friday, 33,860 people infected with coronavirus were detected by laboratory tests. About two-thirds of those affected have already been cured. The number of daily laboratory tests has recently been around 15,000. The positive case rate was 5 percent on Monday and already 9 percent on Thursday.

Starting Thursday, a protective mask is mandatory in closed rooms across the country. Until now, masks were only mandatory in public transport, sanitary facilities and offices.

The government decided on Wednesday to send the most vulnerable citizens over 60 free respirators (FFP2) and five mouth masks from the state reserve fund. The Interior Ministry said the items would be delivered by the post office next week.

According to data published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, 11 countries (including Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Ireland) restricted the entry of Czech citizens or made them dependent on a recent negative coronavirus test in response to the deterioration of the epidemic situation. Some other countries, including Slovakia, have indicated that they are considering some form of restriction or regulation on the entry of Czechs.

According to statistics, only Spain, France, Croatia, Romania and Malta are worse off than the Czech Republic in terms of the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants.
