The case is being investigated by the DGSI’s national intelligence network and the Antiterrorist Prosecutor’s Office. The suspects were arrested in Béziers. Local mayor Robert Menard said the investigation was initially aimed at an 18-year-old woman who bragged in the neighborhood of watching videos of an international terrorist organization called the Islamic State.
The girl and her three sisters, including a minor, were also arrested along with the girl. So far, the mayor has been unable to say whether other family members were involved and were already on the authorities’ watch list. He added that neighbors were terrified by the news of the arrests and feared that the incident would create a bad image for the local Muslim community.
