Of the 660,000 documents that expired, only 280,000 were exchanged again and December 15 is the deadline.

Coronavirus: the second wave

Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the posters, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

Documents that expired during the spring emergency are valid until Dec. 15, operational staff say.

To reduce personal encounters during the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic, the government decided that documents that expired between March 11, 2020 and July 3, 2020, as well as vehicle registration permits, in Hungary, they would remain valid until December 15.

Of the 660,000 expired but automatically renewed cards involved, so far more than 280,000 have been replaced or renewed nationwide. According to the article, government agencies ask customers who have not yet renewed their ID, passport or driver’s license to visit government windows as soon as possible and, if possible, after a prior appointment.

The coronavirus information page warns that mouth and nose masks are mandatory on windows and government offices, and that serial number machines are operated exclusively by customer service personnel. To prevent infection, hand sanitizers have been installed in customer services, protective plexiglass has been developed on customer counters, and facilities are periodically disinfected. And offices can limit the maximum number of people in client areas at the same time.

The emergency declared by the coronavirus epidemic ended on June 18, but the change is for how long the rules and facilities ordered at that time should apply. Some have opted for a transitional period until June 30, otherwise September 30, again December 31, and even among them there are exceptions. If anyone feels this is too complicated, they are absolutely right: we have tried to put things in order between deadlines.

It was a relief for many motorists to extend the period during which they could take their expired license for a roadworthiness test, meaning they could also drive a car without a valid technician. However, one of the additional consequences of the postponement is that it is only valid at the national level.
