Scientists rarely even get the opportunity to observe a scene that took place in the forests of Costa Rica in the summer of 2019, but this time even considering that the camera was simply turning.

They may have had a rare scene recently when anthropologists from Tulane University walked through the forests of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The scientists noticed a group of hooded monkeys that were behaving quite militantly. It soon became clear why: One of his companions was captured by a sizable boa, and the team members, to the amazement of the scientists, did not attempt to escape, but instead engaged the snake in a fight to free the endangered animal.

Scene a Scientific reports as an appendix to a study published in a scientific journal.

The recording was made in the summer of 2019, when anthropologist Katharine M. Jack and her colleagues followed two dozen hooded monkeys into the forest. Some of the younger members of the team were playing when one of them was caught by the six-foot snake. The team reacted almost immediately to the situation, immediately attacking the tracker to expel their teammates.

The rescue operation begins in the 28th second of the video and lasts approximately 19 seconds. The alpha male of the team, accompanied by two females, throws himself at the snake.

Scientists believe that the video scene also supports the theory that hunting and social development are important selection considerations in primates: life or death can be decided if the team’s reaction is not fast enough. In addition, the protection of the team is due to all the members, because it turned out that the monkey in trouble was not the offspring of the alpha male, that is, there was no kinship between them.
