Tens of millions of dollars could be the damage caused by three men to the big movie studios and the channels that produce the series.
The US authorities launched a strong attack to dismantle the world famous pirate site called Sparks Group. As a first step, three individuals accused of copyright infringement were arrested and, in cooperation with authorities in 18 countries, servers used to illegally distribute materials outside of the United States were shut down.
Although the exact figures are not yet known, the authority estimates that the Sparks Group has caused tens of millions of dollars in damages to various movie studios by releasing movies and series released before their release.
The United States Department of Justice has accused the three detainees, as well as several of their accomplices, of distributing pirated copies since 2011. Their method was to obtain DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, which were still only available in the wholesale trade , and then hack them and put the content on the Internet before starting retail distribution.
