Some market participants and US-based organizations have long argued that Facebook has gotten too big and is suffocating smaller companies. The patience of those involved has now been exhausted forever.

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 48 US states sued Facebook on Wednesday for not allowing other smaller companies to breathe air due to its monopoly position.

Foreign organizations have long found it problematic for Facebook to focus on most mobile communications. The social site is not just Messenger, the company also includes WhatsApp and Instagram after both services were acquired for billions of dollars.

The initiators of the current lawsuit allege a violation of antitrust law and demand that WhatsApp and Instagram disconnect from the company so that the two services do not enrich Facebook further. Or so that it does not prevent others.

The FTC claims that Facebook has used a systematic strategy to address threats to its monopoly. (Another problem is that the FTC just approved the company’s previous acquisitions.) Oversight also cites a leaked letter from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, in which the first person on the social site wrote:

there is no point in competing with others if they can simply buy the competition.

Facebook, however, has something to buy, as neither the coronavirus epidemic nor the boycott launched against the company was felt.

A Reuters In a letter sent to the US Department of Justice in October, the US Department of Justice sued Google’s parent company Alphabet, saying it was using the company’s market power to not give it any. possibility of competition. Facebook is now embroiled in a similar matter.
