The European Commission approved the marketing of the coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech on Monday evening, MTI reported. meza The first vaccine against Covid-19 caused by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, which may begin to be used massively in the European Union.
The decision was announced by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. He said the vaccine would be available at the same time and at the same price in all 27 EU countries through marketing authorization.
The first supply of vaccines will arrive in Belgium from the German pharmaceutical factory on December 26, so mass vaccinations can begin in all Member States on the following 27, 28 and 29 days.
Ursula von der Leyen also reported that the committee
approve additional vaccinations,
if the pharmacovigilance agency considers them to be effective and safe. Next will be a vaccine from the American pharmaceutical company Moderna in the first week of January.
He also mentioned that the EU has contributed around 800 million euros to the COVAX initiative for global access to vaccination against the coronavirus. The initiative will allow the vaccine to also reach low- and middle-income countries.
Von der Leyen called the development of the vaccine, approved for commercialization on Monday, as a success story for the EU. He recalled that the German company Biontech had received nine million euros in EU financing over the years to develop its innovative pharmaceutical technology and in June had a loan of one hundred million euros from the European Development Bank to expand its capabilities. .
The vaccine will be delivered weekly for the next several months.
The distribution of the 200 million reserved doses among EU member states is scheduled to be completed in September 2021.
The European Union pharmaceutical authority announced in the afternoon that it had approved the Pfizer and Biontech vaccines. This paved the way for vaccines to be launched within the European Union. Vaccines can be administered starting December 27.
