The accident happened in Dominica.

The late Krisztián Veréb is an Olympic bronze medalist, kayaker with multiple medals at the World and European Championships, the family informed the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB). According to a duel report Sunday on the MOB website, the athlete died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 43 on Saturday in Dominica.

Krisztián Veréb started kayaking in Miskolc, but achieved his outstanding results in the colors of Csepel SC, and later was a competitor for Budapest Honvéd.

He achieved his best results in a team boat at the distances of 500 and 1000 meters. As his greatest success in 2000, he won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics with Krisztián Bártfai in the amount of 1000 meters of kayak pairs. He was able to rank second and third on the world championship podium twice, finished second three times in continental races and achieved three World Cup victories.

He did not make it to the Athens five ring games due to back pain. Krisztián Veréb considers the Hungarian Olympic Committee to be his own dead.
