From September 16, mass events in nightclubs, restaurants and accommodation establishments will be prohibited in Slovakia, with the exception of weddings and memorial services. Starting October 1, regulations will be further tightened, limiting the number of wedding participants to 30, not recommending family events, and lowering the limit on the number of participants in mass events. The latter will vary between 50 and 200 people in each region of the country, depending on whether the region belongs to the so-called green, orange or red region, depending on the current number of infections.
The Minister of Health has announced that the measure requiring the use of masks will be extended until the end of September in educational establishments, upper primary schools, and secondary and higher education establishments.
The head of the ministry justified the hardening of the measures with the increase in the number of infections. “The situation is worse than last week, the number of regions marked in red has also increased,” Marek Krajci said. He noted: the number of infected people has increased dramatically, the numbers are higher than during the first wave. He pointed out that the increase in the number of new cases is currently mainly due to the social contact of young people, and a third of the new cases are so-called “imported patients”, that is, people returning from abroad.
Regarding the increase in the number of infections in neighboring countries, the minister said that the situation is deteriorating mainly in the Czech Republic, but not in Hungary or Austria. He announced that, with regard to travel, the Czech Republic has been included in the list of countries with red or risk classification, Hungary and Austria belong to the group of countries where the prospects are not good. At the same time, Bulgaria, Sweden and Canada are among the least risky countries.
In Slovakia, the number of new coronavirus infections recorded per day has increased markedly since mid-August compared to the previous month, stabilizing at a slightly lower level and then increasing again in recent days. To date, a total of 5,252 people in the country have been diagnosed with the pathogen, according to data from the National Center for Health Information this Friday. The number of people declared cured is 3,081, which means that there are currently 2,134 active infected people registered. In Slovakia, the disease has so far officially claimed 37 lives. To date, more than 375,000 virus tests have been carried out in the country.
