Slavic: GPs select the right vaccine

General practitioners can select the most suitable vaccine for those requesting the vaccine based on the manufacturer’s recommendations, the chief infection physician at South Pest Central Hospital told public media on Saturday.

János Slavik He also talked about how vaccines are different, they can also differ, for example which one is not recommended for whom. There are some for the elderly and there are some that are not recommended for chronic conditions. Manufacturers generally suggest such restrictions as a precaution in the absence of sufficient experience and not because the vaccines are dangerous, he added.

According to the chief physician, the vaccines also protect against mutant viruses, with slightly lower efficiencies at most. Protection is also needed, as the number of hospital admissions is unlikely to decrease due to more rapidly spreading viral variations. Anyone who recovers can be vaccinated after 3 months, but the body of those who contract the disease is protected against the virus for at least half a year. Recurrent disease is rare, and it is even rarer for the consequences of a second infection to be more severe than the first, the specialist said.

János Slavik is confident that more and more people will want to get vaccinated in the coming weeks. Protection is also important because cured patients sometimes complain of weakness, headaches, sleep disorders, chest pressure for months, but vaccines also protect against them, he stressed.
