On Tuesday, we reported that the National Tax and Customs Administration had ordered an investigation into suspected budget fraud, resulting in a particularly large real estate disadvantage. Sándor Kovács Due to the European Union money spent on the property of the Fidesz member of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county parliament.

We were able to catch up with the ruling politician on Wednesday, but he did not want to comment on the news. When asked if he was aware of the investigation, he said:

I heard that Christmas is coming and I wish you, your family and each member of your editorial team a happy, peaceful, virus-free holiday and a happy new year.

Sándor Kovács broke the line after interpreting his good wishes.

At the beginning of September, our document revealed that tourism investments had been made in the family property of the ruling politician with a non-refundable subsidy of HUF 60 million. Although the funds were not officially received by the member of parliament, the money was used to build the guest house, the filagory, the tourist demonstration house and the “boat accommodation” built on his land.

In addition, Kovács did not tell the truth about the buildings erected with funds from the European Union, when he said there that he had nothing to do with tourist facilities, he only gave the land so that a company owned by his son and his wife could be built . He claimed that the superstructures were owned by the grant winners, but that only Kovács and his mother were listed on their deeds; in Hungarian, they were officially the two beneficiaries of EU investments. This was modified by the politician after our article – five years after the completion of the investments – it is true that by then NAV had already ordered the investigation.

In recent years, as Christmas approaches, politicians have wished for happy holidays rather than answering questions that are uncomfortable for them. The most memorable Viktor Orban the 2017 parliamentary response of the Prime Minister, who responded in this way to allegations of corruption, but György Matolcsy the central bank president also spoke of advent and bejgl instead of his housing case.
