On September 21, 4,368 new infections were recorded in the UK, bringing the total to 398,625 cases in the country, and 41,788 people have so far died from the epidemic.
The British government introduced a five-point scale for the coronavirus epidemic in May, and shortly thereafter there were once four levels of orange readiness, but then moderated in July. The official definition of the third level of preparedness, which was in effect until Monday, means that the coronavirus is still present in the UK, but it is already possible to gradually relax the restrictions and rules that require people to keep their distance.
The fifth red level would mean that there are so many infected that it is already endangering the health system. According to an article in The Guardian, raising the level of preparedness will allow the British government to introduce new restrictions, which Prime Minister Boris Johnson could also announce in parliament on Tuesday.
