Queen Isabel and Prince Philip announced their engagement in July 1947, and four months later they connected their lives. At the time, Elizabeth was 21 years old.
She met the prince when she was 13 years old and knew that one day they would get married. However, The Sun obtained an old letter showing that the Queen’s heart was beaten by another man in her late teens.

Most teens go through having tender feelings for someone, but ultimately love remains platonic. Queen Elizabeth also experienced the sensation of this, the British newspaper published a letter written in November 1945 to the queen’s cousin, Diana wrote to Bowes-Lyon. In the letter, she spoke of the Scottish bodyguard with whom she had been secretly fooling around.
“He was a devastatingly handsome young giant, with blonde hair and blue eyes, of course, he came from Skye and his name was Roddy Macleod!” I think it hit my dear Margaret’s heart a bit and mine too. He was a very funny man! We also learned various traditional Scottish dances together: he remembered the man who had been placed alongside the two nobles to accompany them as bodyguards during their visit to Scotland.
This kind of admiration, of course, remained with her platoons, two years after the date of the letter she married Philip.
The man the queen was flooding with was officially named her cousin, Roderick Cameron Robertson-Macleod. He fought in WWII and was even a prisoner in Germany, but eventually happily returned to Britain and later served in the Balmoral Royal Guard.
