Clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine, produced by a consortium of the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, were already in the third and final phase when tests had to be suspended last Sunday. This was due to the fact that one of the subjects experienced serious side effects, which is not uncommon with a new vaccine.
During the closure, an independent committee and the competent UK authorities verified that the tests were safe. Depending on her decision, the work can now continue, writes The Guardian.
This time, it was not revealed exactly what side effects occurred in the subject in question, but the New York Times had previously written that it could be an inflammation of the spine.
