It was then that a very special concept began to emerge, based on teamwork rather than the usual hierarchical alignment of kitchens led by a prominent chef. Under an overhaul developed jointly by the owners and staff, instead of a top-notch chef in the new Onyx, the staff would decide on important issues jointly by voting, while instead of a single super chef who understands the kitchen, the aesthetic presentation, the communication, the acquisitions and the economic background. they would have separate owners. Niszkács did not deny that the fact that there simply were not enough top-notch chefs in Hungary for all subfields also encouraged them to come up with a revolutionary concept.
The owner noted that Onyx’s former chef, Ádám Mészáros, did not like the idea very much. Already in late fall 2019, he was told to part ways next March, so when Mészáros confirmed the Felix restaurant in spring 2020, the thing didn’t hit them at all unexpectedly.
Regarding the closure of the Onyx, Niszkács said that as part of the reform concept, it was also decided in 2019 to completely rebuild the site, so it would have closed in the spring of 2020 even if the coronavirus epidemic had not arrived.
The complete remodel of the restaurant is considered so important that a film crew was enlisted to document the entire process, and not just the Last Supper, which they were also filming this weekend. Although Niszkács has not denied that this dinner was a marketing campaign, he wants such a serious movie about transformation that it can also run on Netflix.
One of the dinner participants also confirmed to 444 that it was a real shoot, not just looking for a title to legally hold the event. During the event, the table was completely lit and the cameras rotated. The participants were selected by the organizers with a view to the future film, that is, the casting, for which the applicants had to submit their own videos in October.
Regarding dinner, the owner of the restaurant pointed out that all his participants were tested with a rapid antigen test from midnight on Saturday afternoon and the participants only entered with a negative result.
