Fidesz MEPs alone did not vote on the People’s Party’s proposal for next year’s European Union (EU) budget, MSZP MEP István Ujhelyi told the MTIP at its online press conference on Sunday.

The Social Democratic politician said that the plenary session of the European Parliament this week included, among other things, a document outlining the position of the European Parliament (EP) on the framework of the EU budget 2021. “Based on this , negotiations on next year’s framework will begin between the institutions, Fidesz has now refused to support this negotiating basis with its vote, “said Ujhelyi, adding: Viktor Orbán’s veto on the upcoming EU budget of seven years and related rebuild package. promised that the payment of EU money would continue to be subject to the rule of law, the MP said on Facebook.

According to the socialist politician, it will not harm Fidesz if neither Hungary nor any other EU member state receives the support it is owed through the veto, it is more important for them not to be held accountable for democratic values and corruption free use of support. Fidesz representatives have again marched towards the opposition in Europe, the MTI quoted István Újhelyi.

According to the proposal voted by Fidesz, but supported by a large majority in the EP, the 2021 budget should include more resources for the protection of work and employment, the Erasmus program for students, research and the European Health Union.

If the budget proposal is returned to parliament after inter-institutional negotiations and the interests of the fields it represents are not harmed, the health union, tourism and transport policy, will support its adoption, said István Ujhelyi.
