One of the most important Czech publishing houses, Economia, has made a letter of intent for a donation of 200,000 euros to Telex, made up of journalists resigned from the Index. This was reported by Reuters, but the news was also shared by Telex, so far only on Facebook, as their site will only be launched in the near future.
As they write, after the mass dismissal of journalists, Veronika Munk gave interviews to several foreign newspapers, including one of the richest Czech businessmen, Zdeněk Bakala, who read the article and indicated that she would be interested in his story. They were contacted and Bakala indicated that Economia would like to help the newspaper with a large donation.
“As far as we know, we are satisfied that the intention is real and that the donor is not risky. We do not have a donation yet, it is just a statement of intent, a prerequisite for our financial and legal experts to work with their experts on how to do so in a transparent and legal way, ”writes Telex.
As a Reuters article points out, Economia publishes, among other things, an economic daily and a weekly magazine in the Czech Republic. The publisher has been owned by Balaka for more than a decade.
Márton Kárpáti, managing director of Telex, which is preparing to launch the new EU-funded document, confirmed to Reuters that he was in talks with Economia and also said that the Czech company would not receive a stake in Telex in exchange for its support.
