The Győr Regional Investigation Prosecutor’s Office has prosecuted a professional prison officer in the Sárvár District Court for negligence that caused a fatal traffic accident and failed to provide regular assistance to nine and other crimes.
In August 2019, the prison guard traveled from Sopron to Sárvár. Right behind him was a German family with seven children and their youngest children. The vehicle with German registration began to overtake the two cars in front of it, when the prison guard also began to overtake, without paying the attention and caution expected of him.
The driver of the innocent foreign vehicle swerved onto the curb on the left to avoid a collision, then rolled over, crashed into the drainage ditch on the right, rolled over, and finally stopped in the agricultural area. As a result of the accident, a 14-year-old boy who was riding in the left seat of the back row of seats was so seriously injured that he was killed in hospital the following day, while the other passengers suffered minor injuries.
According to the indictment, the accident occurred because the police officer began to pass the combined vehicle in front of him without being convinced that he had already started to pass his vehicle. The defendant noticed the accident he had caused, but was not convinced that someone in the overturned car had been injured, his life or physical safety was in danger, and he did not offer his help, but kept driving without stopping.
The investigating prosecution requested the execution of the detainee.
