North Korean soldiers recently shot down a South Korean official who crossed the maritime border that separates the two countries. The official’s body was burned by North Koreans.

Now North Korea’s reunification department has sent a letter to South Korea trying to explain the incident.

The message quotes Kim Jongun, who writes that he “regrets” that the incident “disappointed South Korea” and that “it should not have happened.”

The North Koreans also describe that they did not actually even kill the South Korean ministry worker, as they simply “shot him”, the body was not found. It is claimed that not a corpse was burned, but a float that he left behind, as this is dictated by the country’s coronavirus control protocol.

North Korea claims its soldiers fired 10 shots because an unknown man who got into North Korean waters did not identify himself and tried to escape.
