Unprecedented events occurred at the general assembly of the Hungarian Theater Society, according to hvg.hu, which reported it from various sources. It is the theatrical organization founded by Attila Vidnyánszky in 2008 to bring together Fidesz theater directors, and since then it has been re-elected twice without a vote. “The meetings always had the atmosphere of some party assembly, but so far there have been debates,” said one member. Now, however, more than fluid debate has happened.
The background is well known: Attila Vidnyánszky has gained control of the University of Theater and Cinema in addition to his numerous charges, and the tone of his statements and the violence of the occupation have ensured the safety of those close to him and / or to the Fidesz field.
- Ildikó Bánsági, the Kossuth Award-winning actor, who, in his own words, was a fan of it, resigned as its director at Nacional.
- Courtesy Dorottya publicly lied to her boss.
- Péter Blaskó has been a National Leading Actor since 2002, but now he writes that Vidnyánszky was wrong because “without consensus the renewal of the University of Theater and Cinematographic Arts cannot be accepted.”
- Miklós Szinetár, who was Vidnyánszky’s teacher and head of the opera, asked for his resignation.
- György Cserhalmi, the Actor of the Nation, whom Vidnyánszky recently invited to teach in Kaposvár, said: “They are trying to completely demolish these two small professions, but in this Vidnyánszky will be demolished like all the others they are about to demolish.” .
- But, for example, the renowned German company he invited resigned from the Vidnyánszky festival,
- and a theatrical demigod, Robert Wilson, also a guest at the festival, who wrote a letter to the SZFE students.
But it’s not just about them: there is a wave of sympathy for the students who are blocking their university and the leaders who quit because of its principles, which is unparalleled in recent Hungarian public life: from Hollywood stars to Hungarian artists. across the border, from the world’s leading directors to high school students, to virtually all theatrical and film professions, from skated European universities to all kinds of Hungarian departments. There are so many classifications that I no longer include individual speeches in the regularly updated article that summarizes them, because the collection would be landless.
By comparison, alongside Vidnyánszky, only a few fringe figures and one or two very close allies have stood out since Sept. 1, when he removed powers from the Senate and ran the university. Although the government media is polluting its opponents, it has been running more and more quietly, and it has only gone from pro-government politicians to fights. It was especially surprising that the Hungarian Theater Society (MTT) also listened in the meantime. In June a letter with a superior tone was sent to the student government and, in July, more than 70 artists, including members of the MTT, issued a statement in support of the government’s transformation plans. But he was also missing one or two emblematic names, such as János Szikora, or the head of the János Zalán Theater Arts Committee in Pest and head of the Theater Arts Committee, hvg.hu warned.
At Monday’s general meeting it was suggested that a statement of support be issued in favor of the transformation of the SZFE, and although Vidnyánszky himself withdrew from the idea at first, he later accepted it.
“However, something happened that was rare in the history of the MTT: There were several speakers in the one-and-a-half-hour and two-hour debate who did not clearly criticize Vidnyansky, but emphasized that it would not be good to issue a statement of support.”
type hvg. The secretary of the company, László Szabó, told the newspaper that at that time he had prepared a text of few sentences, nothing combative, that “without a doubt the general meeting would have passed, but as the last speaker, Atila himself asked not to publish it.” But according to another source, “the mood was such that Attila might have feared that the statement would not get enough votes, so he asked not to take a position on MTT’s performance.”
One member said that Vidnyánszky did not anticipate that most of his followers at MTT would graduate from SZFE and that they still have strong ties to the university, with professors being insulted by the government press or by Vidnyánszky himself. .
Of course, this does not mean that the very loyal and politically organized camp would be shattered, but according to Vidnyánszky’s environment, the president did not expect such a great and wide resistance from international and national support, and that the right-wing theater makers were still closed and disciplined. they tremble.
Vidnyánszky said in a recent interview with the Democrat: “If I feel that the time has come when really only my person is an obstacle to common thought, I will stand aside without any problem.” However, his close colleague, who told hvg.hu, cautions that so far there is no indication that he has lost Viktor Orbán’s trust, and his word is obviously deciding on this issue.
