It is planned that from 2021 two more institutions can continue their work on the new maintainer model, ITM announced.

To further modernize higher education, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) pays special attention to the operation of universities that change their model, Minister László Palkovics said in a video conference.

In the last two years, eight higher education institutions, first the Corvinus University of Budapest, then the University of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Miskolc, the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts, the János Neumann University, the University of Sopron, the Széchenyi István University and the University of Theater and Film custody rights have been transferred to trusts. In the new operating model, institutions can respond more quickly to economic needs, so young Hungarians can receive more competitive training and more valuable education in the labor market.

It is expected that from 2021 two more institutions will be able to continue working on the new maintenance model. The draft law on the change of model of the University of Pannonia and the Szent István University is currently under discussion in Parliament.

The government’s goal is to increase the competitiveness of higher education so that young Hungarians can be the winners of the future in a more flexible and predictable operating environment. It is a basic expectation that universities play a central role in national research, development and innovation.

The dialogue and exchange of experiences between the universities that change their model allows the institutions to contribute to the success of Hungarian higher education at the international level by strengthening each other. By modernizing trainings and building its quality infrastructure, Hungary can become a regional knowledge center, László Palkovics said according to the ITM report.
