The news came in mid-April that Rick May, a writer, actor, and educator, who had voiced Soldier in Team Fortress 2, among others, had died at the age of 79. And the game recently received an update to remember Valve May.

All that was added to the developer’s update list is that “a tribute to Rick May, the voice of Soldier, has been added to the game.” In practice, it appears that Soldier statues were scattered everywhere on the game tracks, showing the figure revered by the military and the actor’s name on the pedestal, and how long he lived (1940-2020).

Users (some of whom have been listening to May’s voice in the game for 12 years) have also paid their respects in their own way. Some in TF2 are soldiers selected they did not go into battle, but saluted the statue or fired a rocket into the sky. Players have also made several videos, like these.

Rick May’s other famous video gamer role was on Star Fox 64 in addition to Team Fortress 2. His character, Peppy Hare, said “make a barrel” (“make a reel!”), Which has become a meme well known throughout the years.
