A coronavirus focal point has developed at the Hungarian Opera House in Cluj-Napoca and the Hungarian State Theater in Cluj-Napoca, according to which more than thirty infections have reportedly been recorded at the two institutions so far. writes MTI.

According to the local Cluj portal Actual, 30 infected people have already been identified at the opera. The institution announced last Thursday that it would miss its October conferences due to the epidemiological situation.

Gyula Szép, the opera director, did not want to deny or confirm the number published in the press to the MTI. It only knows the cases that have been reported by the infected themselves. These include members of the orchestra, members of the choir, soloists, and members of the technical staff alike. The director said they were notified of the first infection on October 3. Subsequently, members of the company were banned from the building until the situation was clarified. Artists from the institution were instructed to practice at home.

The director mentioned that as of October 6, a ministerial decree was also issued, according to which conferences should not be held for more than two hours. This decree also limited the operation of the opera, since most of its performances are around three hours. They are prepared to perform concerts after the forced pause that are framed within the framework established by health regulations.

Five of the technical staff of the Hungarian State Theater of Cluj-Napoca, which operates in the same building as the opera, were infected, said Gábor Tompa, director of the institution. They would have gone to Serbia last Thursday with Henrik Ibsen’s drama Nóra, which would have been screened at a festival in Kragujevac and Subotica, respectively. It was then that those who had traveled were put to the test. As several members of the technical staff had been diagnosed with the infection, operations in Serbia had to be abandoned and the ornate truck already on the road had to be returned. All his staff are fine, the infected also have no symptoms.

At the moment, the theater has its functions until October 24. Their biggest dilemma is whether they can organize the International Interference Theater Festival in the traditional way, or are they forced to submit festival performances online.

According to new disease statistics released in recent days, Cluj County is among the most infected counties in the country. In the last 24 hours, 172 have been infected in the region of about 700,000 inhabitants. According to a summary of the prefecture this Monday, the number of new cases per thousand inhabitants has exceeded two in the last two weeks in Cluj-Napoca, Dés and Sgamosújvár, as well as in the town of Szék, famous for its popular traditions .
