Existing restrictions will be extended and further restrictions will be introduced in Germany over the coronavirus epidemic, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced Tuesday afternoon after a nearly five-hour video conference with provincial prime ministers.
The federal government and provincial leaders have decided to maintain and tighten the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak until January 31, said MTI correspondent Angela Merkel.
Due to the reductions that were made possible during the Christmas holidays, a clear picture of the impact of the measures is not expected until the second half of January.
The chancellor stressed that the objective remains to reduce the incidence from seven days (the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants) to less than 50, since this is the only way to monitor the chain of contagion. This is of great importance due to the new mutant of the virus spreading from Great Britain.
They reduce human relationships to the “absolute minimum necessary.” Locals have limited space to maneuver at hotspots of infection. Schools and kindergartens remain closed and parents can stay at home with their children for longer than before, for 20 days. The factory kitchens are closed.
The chancellor and the provincial prime ministers will meet on January 25 to evaluate the impact of the measures.
