The late Little Richard, one of the most defining figures in rock history, performer of Long Tall Sally, Tutti Frutti and Good Golly Miss Molly, wrote the Index.
The death of the 87-year-old rock legend was confirmed to his Rolling Stone by his son, Danny Penniman. The cause of his death is still unknown, according to the portal.
Little Richard, a civilian named Richard Wayne Penniman, was born to a poor religious black family in Macon, Georgia. His father was a wandering preacher, he began singing in the church gospel choir, but he soon escaped and flocked to the wandering actor. He continued as a failed jazz and blues singer, and despite winning a talent search competition at the age of 18, the breakthrough was missed. He returned to his hometown, where he washed dishes in the kitchen during the day and entertained high-ranking people in a bar at night. He was taken under the wings of a local singer, in addition to professional advice, he dressed the young man’s hair, dyed his face, and dressed him in chicory clothing to make him stand out with his appearance. MTI remembers the beginnings.
In 1955, he sent a demo recording to an editor where he was given the opportunity. Things got very dark until Richard got drunk and started improvising with a text not very much like a classroom. The song “Cleaned” appeared under the title Tutti Frutti and a new star was born. The audience loved the unbridled and unbridled-looking singer who, while standing or leaning against the piano, played the keys and roared his songs. For two years, full house tours, movies followed, just arrived, became a hit. The products of this time are Good Golly Miss Molly, Lucille, Long Tall Sally, Ready Teddy, Baby Face.
Little Richard unexpectedly converted in 1957, denied his homosexuality, and left show business during a tour. He served as a preacher in the Seventh-day Adventist Church for years, breaking up with music but singing gospel alone, with much less success, of course. He returned to his old genre in the mid-1960s, and his gospel and rock recordings have been running side by side ever since. At that time, however, it was no longer being celebrated, and the tastes of music and audience also changed. Richard toured with the Rolling Stones and his band was guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
The wave of nostalgia sparked interest in him again. In 1972, he gave a very successful concert at Wembley Stadium, held at Bill Clinton’s presidential inauguration, the closing ceremony of the Atlanta Olympics, and in 1986 he became one of the rock and roll immortals at first round. In the late 1990s, he also gave concerts at the Kisstadion in Budapest. In his honor, Elijah’s band also wrote a song called Little Richard.
