Joining in the Earth Hour action will turn off the decorative lighting in the capital.

Budapest has also joined the Earth Hour campaign, so the city’s decorative lighting will be turned off for an hour on Saturday night, the mayor said on his Facebook page.

Gergely Karácsony emphasized that the effects of climate change are becoming more and more pronounced in Budapest as well: the number of hot days is constantly increasing, storms causing damage are more frequent and heavy rains are falling suddenly.
“The most important thing now is to unite and overcome the epidemic together, but once we overcome that, the dangers of climate change will remain with us,” warned the mayor.

The decorative lighting will turn off at half past nine at night.
