László Bige was placed under house arrest

The court did not consider it appropriate to pre-arrest the fertilizer king accused of bribery.

Was free to go László Bige at the trial, which lasted until late in the afternoon, as the court did not accept the motion of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Attorney General’s Office to previously detain one of the wealthiest Hungarian businessmen. As we reported, László Bige was arrested on Tuesday, and the prosecution suspects that he accepted more than 800 million guilders in bribes while damaging his own company by almost 2 billion guilders.

The punishment for the crime is imprisonment for five to ten years, and since the prosecution believes that there is a risk of flight, they requested the arrest of the suspect.

The court judged the matter differently, it did not fear the risk of flight, but saw the reason for the failure of the process, for which it considered criminal supervision justified. This practically means that László Bige can return to his multi-hectare farm and await the decision on his case there. Both parties have appealed, the prosecution insists on the preliminary, and the Bigés also find the house arrest an exaggeration. Péter Zamecsnik attorney said to our question, the matter will be decided by the court for the foreseeable future.

Bige is already being prosecuted in a similar case based on the indictment of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of taking a bribe. As we have written, this is a HUF 135 million bribe and also a prison sentence, with the fact that the King of Fertilizers can get away with a suspended sentence if he accepts it.
