On Tuesday night, it turned out that one of the richest people in the country, László Bige, had been arrested and a house search had been carried out. 24.hu learned from the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Police Headquarters that Bigé was questioned as a suspect for the crime of dishonest treatment that caused a particularly significant financial disadvantage, the improper use of the use of a false private document and bribery committed by a person entitled to independent action.
In the interest of the investigation, no more than this was revealed, so exactly what crime was suspected was not revealed, but as the newspaper notes, the points of suspicion listed are reminiscent of an earlier Bige case about a 2010 story. At the time, the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Attorney General charged Bigé with commercial bribery, who, according to the indictment, manipulated the sale of the product he manufactured.
Bige’s lawyer, Péter Zamencsik, told 24 that Bigé was not detained in the case and that the case was similar but new.
Bige was indicted in May, and the prosecution proposed a prison sentence and the forfeiture of 135 million guilders in bribes. In May, he told daily.hu: “They forgot that I am not an employee who can be bribed, but I am the owner who cannot be bribed for my own money.”
In 2018, the Szolnok fertilizer factory of one of Hungary’s wealthiest businessmen was attacked by authorities suspected of violating waste management regulations, and the plant’s operating license was later suspended. The researchers then kept it inside for 72 hours.
In 2019 he spoke about it: according to him, the authorities could have approached him because he had a dispute with Sándor Csányi. Csányi called this a lie.
