He will leave the European Parliament on December 31 József Szájer – writes Hvg.hu based on the announcement of the representative of Fidesz. The politician informed the EP president of his decision on Sunday, David sassolit.

He justified Szájer’s decision as follows:

For some time now, participating in the daily political struggle has been a growing mental strain for me, and those on the battlefield must be in a state of combat. I have been serving Hungary as a professional politician for thirty years. For the most part, I worked at the European level. I tried to fulfill my duties conscientiously, to represent the interests of the Hungarian people and my constituents.

He added that his decision “marks the end of a long-term reflection” and pointed out that the dispute over the rule of law between the Hungarian government and the EU has nothing to do with his decision, it agrees with the position of Fidesz and supports it.

Regarding his future, the politician wrote that he would like to work in a broader intellectual field rather than “practical political activity”, but did not reveal details.

József Szájer was a founding member of Fidesz, and between 2003 and 2010 he was a member of the Fidesz board.
