Tamás Schanda emphasized that the condition of the heels has been verified with continuous on-site inspections and a new construction monitoring system since September, as one has been broken before. Another shoe broke this Wednesday, although the magnitude of the damage did not justify the immediate closure of the bridge, but urgent and many worrying measures are needed.

He noted that the leader of the Strabag consortium and its subcontractor for the construction of bridges, A-Bridge, had obviously acted irresponsibly, making a mistake when choosing the type of shoe.

Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. He is forced to introduce a traffic diversion from Monday to Sunday, the bridge from the left road to the M1 must be closed again. That’s the price of keeping motorists safe. The detour means a temporary construction of 2 + 2 lanes of traffic on the bridge of the right track with the closure of the rise of the Halásztelek crossing, he explained.

Tamás Schanda stressed that the southern sector of the M0 is the busiest stretch of road in Hungary and the only one with more than 100,000 vehicles passing on average daily.

He said the stretch would not be suitable for extraordinary cargo even today if its expansion had not been attended to by the civil-national government in the first half of the last decade. As a result of the improvements, the M0, between the M1 and M5 motorways in both directions, became three lanes each. After the capacity expansion, the load on the sector increased by leaps and bounds, and the renovation of track elements and structures, which had been built over several decades, became urgent.

At the current rate, the M6 motorway and the 51st. In the section between the main road, the asphalt pavement of the left road will be replaced by more bearing concrete. Bridges will be upgraded and road safety and environmental interventions will take place, all while maintaining traffic wherever possible. The STR M0 Consortium, led by the Austrian Strabag, won the work and in April 2018 the reconstruction began.

The necessary footwear changes were carried out on the bridge from May to September last year, and in April of this year the tasks required for the opening of the left track bridge were also completed. However, not long after, it became necessary to replace the heels and one of them broke.

For half a year now, contractors have been unable to overcome the problems caused by their own serious failure. It is only because of the vigilance of state-owned companies that this did not directly endanger road users, Tamás Schanda emphasized.

“With the busiest section of highway in Hungary, and with the nerves of those who turn around here regularly, you have to play tick-csuk because the foreign company did not act with due diligence,” he said.

He also mentioned that all points of the contract with Strabag for the reconstruction of the bridge will be respected. All mistakes, superficiality, negligence will be responsible, will act as strictly as possible.

They are also exploring the possibility of excluding such negligent and irresponsible companies from public procurement once and for all.

The secretary of state said that “we can hope that the left will also learn from the Ferenc Deák bridge case.” He is confident that Mayor Gergely Karácsony and the Budapest leadership will not entrust the renovation of another bridge in Budapest, the Chain Bridge, to Strabag or Bridge A.

With the remodeling of the southern section of the M0 motorway, a new traffic regime will come into force to reduce the congestion. On the Hárosi Danube Bridge, in addition to the work zone, there will be three lanes of traffic heading towards the M1 motorway instead of the previous two, while longer acceleration lanes towards the Soroksár Danube Bridge will help road users .
