Twenty Chinese Air Force fighters violated Taiwan’s airspace on Friday. This is the largest intrusion ever experienced by the island’s Defense Department. Observers say the incident indicates escalating tensions in the region.
The island’s defense ministry said the local air force used missiles to “monitor” the violation of airspace in the southwestern air defense zone, although this was not exactly explained by the ministry. They also said that their own planes had warned Chinese pilots by radio, among other things.
