István Cs. Szabó died of a coronavirus

István Cs. Szabó, an actor, writer, poet, director and artistic director of the Buddha Puppet Theater, passed away at the age of 78, the family told MTI on Friday.

The artist was reported to have died on Wednesday due to a coronavirus infection.

According to the family, István Cs. Szabó became known as a puppet actor since the 1960s. His main works are lectures, story books, radio shows, television shows, movies. Generations have grown up on his stories and puppet shows.

He was the co-author and star of the television series The Magic Workshop. He worked as an actor at the State Puppet Theater, then the Budapest Children’s Theater, then the Arany János Theater, and with his wife for 50 years he was the entertainer for the traveling two-person Buda Puppet Theater.

His best-known storybooks, from which both radio games and shadow games were made: Loq Island Fairy, Soma. Popular Puppet Shows: Hat Adventure, Bubu’s Adventures, Hedgehog Soma, The Insatiable Rabbit; from which television stories were also made. In addition, he participated in the production of several other films and puppet pieces, the family said.

As it was written, István Cs. Szabó has also performed as a performer in recent years with Szent Erzsébet and Wass Albert evenings at the Árpád House.
