Romain Grosjean lost control of the Haas at the exit of the triple bend, crashed into a wall and his car literally broke in two and caught fire. The French driver miraculously survived the accident and even left his burning car on its own two feet.

Grosjean’s car broke in two after hitting the lane barrier. Gasoline spilled and immediately caught fire. Niki Lauda’s accident was cited at the start of F1.

Climbing up the railing of the burning car, Grojean escaped the flames:

Romain Grojean wanted to defend Daniil Kvyat too aggressively, but he misjudged the move and was knocked unconscious with the Russian.

The halo saved his life

The Bahrain Grand Prix was suspended with a red flag, the drivers entered the pit lane after the accident. Competitors watched the footage with concern, but when Grosjean left the burning car on his own two feet, everyone calmed down and those working in the Haas barn applauded the emergency medical team as one man. He has minor burns to his arms and ankles. Grojeant and the other drivers were very mentally exhausted from the accident. According to a BBC report, Hamilton, who only saw the barrier close on repeating the broadcast, stared at himself for long minutes.

The halo was introduced to Formula 1 in 2019 after a detached wheel collided with the head of an Indycar driver. The spiciness of the thing is that Grojean objected to the introduction of halo.
