Márton Fucsovics was eliminated in three sets by American Frances Tiafoe in the third round of the United States Open Tennis Championships, which ended Sunday morning at Hungarian time.
The Hungarian player in 66th place in the world rankings reached 32nd place after defeating Hugo Dellien of Bolivia and Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. He was able to take Tiafoe’s service game (82nd) only once on Saturday, but lost his six times, thus ending up knocking out in three soft sets in one and three-quarters of an hour.
The two players met for the third time, Fucsovics in Geneva in 2018 and exited Tiafoe for the first time since their success in Doha in January this year.
Fucsovics is at the main table at the US Open for the fifth time and has scored an individual peak going into the third round, as the first round has been his final round in the last four years.
