The paper form promised that the Hungarian team led by Gábor Danyi and Gábor Elek could have an easy time in the first match of the tournament, as the Croats are missing several key players. It didn’t happen that way …
At the start of the match, Banka Blanka started on our doorstep, attacked by Anikó Kovacsics, Schatzl Nadine, Háfra Noémi, Tomori Zsuzsanna, Lukács Viktória and Tóvizi Petra.
We drove for the first time in the fifth minute, with the teams scoring head-to-head. In the first ten minutes, neither band was able to perform, on the Hungarian side Tomori’s routine and clever play were remarkable.
After that we broke into an attack, between the 11th and the 20th minute there was only one Hungarian goal,
In addition, ours disintegrated a bit on defense, putting together several two-minute displays, and in the 21st minute the Croats led 9-7. We managed to equalize at the end of time, but we couldn’t improve much in the game.
We couldn’t change the pace at the start of the second half of the match either, but in the 39th minute we were already in the lead, but the Croats turned back again. The game was characterized by tough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but Szikora Melinda showed great heart and had a good game.
During the last quarter of an hour we went to tie again, the Croats pulled out their hair better, leading by two goals seven minutes before the end.
Ours failed to regenerate, ultimately suffering a 24-22 defeat.
In general, the Hungarian team remained indebted to the good game and the point guard needs to improve a lot in both attack and defense.
The group’s other match (Netherlands-Serbia) was postponed for the time being on Saturday because more Serbs have been infected with the coronavirus. The Hungarian national team will face the Dutch on Sunday.
This is a huge disappointment, there is no question. I am mainly disappointed in the game we show because we play deeply to the best of our knowledge. A little unfocused, a little perhaps even without faith. We had a lot of technical errors, unforced errors. We suffered against the open defense of the Croats, and our defense was not good either, we had a lot of problems with the board game.
– Said the rights holder to Sport Tv after the game Gábor Danyi.
The biggest disappointment was that there were no signs of this. We knew it was never easy to have the first match in a tournament, but you can’t always hide behind that, that can’t be an excuse. We have quite a few players who play in BL, there was no problem with training and attitude during preparation
Said Danyi, who also runs the Audi ETO KC in Győr.
