Salvador Jorgensen, a researcher at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, has been dealing with great white sharks for a long time. Over the years, he has realized that as soon as the winged dolphin reaches the great white sharks’ habitat, the sharks flee at a tremendous rate and do not return for months. The interesting phenomenon was also captured by Jorgensen in 2009: he equipped 17 great white sharks with GPS trackers and then released them in California, near the southeastern island of Farallón. The young seals were being explored by white predators when a pair of orcs appeared. It is true that they did not stay long, only a few hours, but the sharks fled headlong and did not return in their traditional hunting season, late fall.
With his research team, he decided to examine whether it was a general phenomenon or just weird.
Between 2006 and 2013, 165 great white sharks were identified and their movements and feeding habits were compared with the behavior of seals, smaller sharks and whales. The results were ingenious: when a dolphin with sword wings arrives, great white sharks go far.
What could be the reason for this?
