With the completion of the first section of almost 6 kilometers that connects Zalaegerszeg with the M7 motorway, the government’s goal of having access to the motorway network from all settlements in 30 minutes will be achieved, said the Secretary of State for Innovation and Technology ( ITM) of the EU. on Thursday in Balatonszentgyörgy.
At the inauguration of the two-lane motorway between the M7 and Balatonszentgyörgy, Szabolcs Ágostházy spoke about the fact that when the 3.2 billion HUF road program was launched in 2016, half of the Hungarian settlements and almost three quarters of the residents had access to the highway in half an hour.
The creation of faster and more convenient access between large rural cities and priority economic areas may be followed by the construction of elements of national ring roads. One of them is the future M9, which will lead from Sopron via Szombathely, Zalaegerszeg, Keszthely, Kaposvár, Pécs, Mohács, Szeged, Békéscsaba and Debrecen to Nyíregyháza.
– described Szabolcs Ágostházy.
The politician indicated that the first 5.6-kilometer section of the M76 motorway connecting Balatonszentgyörgy, Zalaegerszeg and Körmend will also form part of the future ring road of the M9 motorway. The new section, which will start at the Dutch junction of the M7, will be able to travel at a speed of 110 kilometers.
Another one-kilometer stretch from the now-delivered crossing to Fenékpuszta is expected to be completed in a year and a half, and the connection of the main two-lane Keszthely highway may begin within a year.
The ITM Secretary of State also spoke about the fact that when the HUF 3.2 billion highway program was launched four years ago, 14 cities with county status were available on four-lane highways, but their number has since increased. to eighteen with the connection of Salgótarján, Szombathely, Veszprém and Eger. Sopron’s connection with the M85 road will be completed by the end of the year, but construction is still underway outside Zalaegerszeg in the direction of Békéscsaba, Kaposvár and Szolnok, to be completed by 2025 at the latest.
An 11-kilometer motorway will be built between Fenékpuszta and Sármellék with a rest area and separate connections in the direction of Sármellék and Keszthely airport, but a parallel cycle path will also be built. Within 23.5 kilometers from Sármellék to the eastern part of Zalaegerszeg, there will be a special 11-kilometer test section, where a 5G mobile network, mobile deflectors and automatic road de-icing will be implemented for electric car road tests. and without a driver.
The M76 will continue for 9.2 km between the eastern and northern sides of Zalaegerszeg, providing a direct connection to the test track, the future truck terminal and the logistics center, thus alleviating city traffic.
