There have been rumors for years that the University of Theater and Motion Picture Arts needs to build a new campus. SZFE has recently operated out of three different buildings in the city center, in Rákóczi út, Vas utca and Szentkirályi utca, and the institution has also rented classrooms, warehouses and workshops elsewhere.

This year, the Orbán government appointed a new maintainer of SZFE, the Foundation for the Arts of Theater and Cinema, chaired by Attila Vidnyánszky, director of the National Theater, without meaningful dialogue with the university’s professors and students. As a result of what happened, university students blocked the institution for months and demanded that the original state be restored. After the SZFE also switched to digital education, the students left campus and the university, but since their demands were not met, they “took” the blockade with them, continuing the resistance outside the building walls.

The latest news in the case is that the Metropolitan Court ruled in December that it cannot be suspended and considered void. the academic semester at SZFE.

It appears that they will no longer be able to return to the current campus, a government decision on Wednesday at least supports it. The decision establishes that, pending the completion of the new campus, the Foundation for the Arts of Theater and Film and the university

The building “B” of the Budapest property with the topographic number 7488 will be used.

This is nothing more than the headquarters of the former foreign company Nikex, which operated as the headquarters of Duna TV for many years, until 2011, when the television moved to the headquarters of MTV.

Mészáros utca 48–54. The building under the state is state-owned, the current government’s decision stipulates that the building will be managed by the Vidnyánszky Foundation without competition so that the university can use it from now until the new campus is rebuilt.

In November, Attila Vidnyánszky told Inforadio that education would begin on February 1 at the new location, where renovations had already started. At the time, it had not yet revealed that SZFE would be moving into the former Duna TV building. In light of the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic, it will certainly be decided later on whether education will actually begin at the new location in February or whether the digital curriculum will continue.
