Index – National – Unrest puts pressure on Göd municipality even in an emergency

The local government elections in Göd last fall also resulted in the victory of the opposition coalition, but the cooperation did not last long. The initial cracks, along with more and more conflict, have now turned into rifts in the local council.

After a long year, the current mayor of Göd, Csaba Balogh, once again announced the removal of his deputy mayors, Zoltán Fülöp, who had previously suspended LMP membership, and László Lőrincz from the DK.

The post of deputy mayors has long been a problem in Göd politics. Zoltán Fülöp and László Lőrincz have long since lost my trust, just as they have lost the trust of Göd voters according to data from a poll published a couple of months ago. I have decided that I cannot allow my alternate to be replaced by someone who I cannot believe will carry out his duties in good faith and with Göd’s interests in mind. That is why, as of today, I removed Zoltán Fülöp and László Lőrincz from their position as deputy mayor.

Csaba Balogh posted on her Facebook page.

He also reported that, instead, he would entrust Mayor Andrejka Sombor and former LMP Judit Hlavács with the functions of Deputy Mayor.

IT IS WORTH WORKING FOR GÖDI’S TRUST The post of deputy mayors has long been a problem in Göd politics …

In recent months, a kind of Csiki-csuki situation has developed in the local government of Göd: where Csaba Balogh wanted to fire his deputy mayors, where he was suspended. The conflict also caused waves in national politics, with sound recordings that were not left unchecked.

The leaders of the opposition parties tried to save what could be saved, to reconcile the parties, and even Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the DK and András Fekete-Győr, the president of the Momentum, met at Lake Balaton to discuss how solve the accumulated stresses.

It was unsuccessful, the war situation remained in Göd, Zoltán Fülöp from LMP, László Lőrincz from SE and László Szilágyi suspended their party membership. In Lőrincz, his party finally initiated exclusion, and Szilágyi withdrew on his own.

Following the publication of our article, László Lőrincz informed the Index in a letter that he is still a member of the Democratic Coalition. “Contrary to the lost news, my party has not received any inquiries or notifications about my exclusion. Furthermore, to this day, I have been invited to internal party events, such as the renewal of the constituency, ”he wrote.

How angry was the relationship between the mayor and each member of the representative body? The contradictions were not exacerbated by specific issues.

  • According to one version, Csaba Balogh’s policy by force and put his own ambition to the forefront at the expense of cooperation.
  • However, the mayor’s version is that it was some members of the board who did not cooperate with him in the administration of the city.

For some time, Csaba Balogh put an end to the conflict by removing his two deputy mayors, with whom he had the most angry relations, making use of the mayor privileges declared by the national emergency due to the coronavirus.

According to the Index, Csaba Balogh announced the layoffs by inviting members to a conciliation consultation. There, however, something completely different happened instead of settling the disagreements, as Csaba Balogh presented her deputy mayors with facts already done, and then, before her dismissal was signed, she sharpened her post about the decision on her page of Facebook during the conciliation consultation.

Zoltán Fülöp told the Index that

the mayor has “crossed a border”, is legally concerned about his decision and his reasons are “in fact false”.

He also emphasized that cooperation will continue to be promoted for the benefit of the municipality, but added that the parliamentarians will have to perform their functions alone, “without the mayor” during the epidemic.

Will the mayor decide in an emergency posted on the pozzo.hu website in May? According to the summary of law enforcement, village leaders must also comply with the Local Government Law in case of emergency.

The Mötv. unequivocally declares that the rights set forth therein must be exercised in good faith, taking into account the principle of mutual cooperation, in accordance with its social purpose;

– Read in the article that these clauses should also serve as a measurement line in case of emergency.

According to a joint resolution of the Ministry of the Interior and the Prime Minister’s Office of March 6, described in the Municipal Bulletin No. 6 of 2020, the mayor can elect a deputy mayor only if he has not held this position before the emergency.

I resolution is also included in that

The representative body may at any time review and modify the decisions made in the powers delegated by the mayor, essentially without restriction. This right, of course, is still available after the end of the emergency. The Board of Representatives can decide which mayoral decisions to repeal or which to leave unchanged.

Although Csaba Balogh has less to worry about in the emergency, he is still a minority. Under the current position, alongside Csaba Balogh are two newly appointed deputy mayors, Judit Hlavács and Andrejka Sombor, and his wife Viktória Vajda. The two ousted deputy mayors, Zoltán Fülöp and László Lőrincz, as well as László Szilágyi and Gábor Hives de Jobbik, are members of the Göd development faction. The local Fidesz faction has four members.

Therefore, the balance is not at all favorable for Csaba Balogh, who can claim a maximum advantage of one step, but the conflict that has become insoluble, and the Calvary of Göd, is not over yet.
