Two types of drugs that have been tested in international practice can already be used to treat Hungarian patients, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) said on Friday.
The ministry said in a statement that domestic production of remdesivir had started. It was recalled that Richter Gedeon Zrt. Already in the spring he had the opportunity to develop remdesivir, which has proven its effectiveness in the treatment of coronavirus. The drug accelerates the recovery of patients and reduces the mortality rate in a clinically proven way. Richter delivers the manufactured drugs to the Hungarian state. The formulation currently available in the manufacturer’s warehouse for use in a clinical trial allows the treatment of approximately 250 patients.
By the end of October, there will be enough drugs available for 800 patients.

Meanwhile, according to ITM, Hungarian-produced favipiravir is also produced on an “operational scale”. Favipiravir is an antiviral agent. This is a group of drugs that inhibit the process of viruses within the body, explained Virology Pécs, which was reviewed by HVG. The active ingredient is used for the first time in patients at the Szeged clinic.
