A man from Hajdúszoboszló was fined for misappropriation because he removed a million forgotten florins from an ATM machine last September, a Debrecen court spokesperson told the MTI.

Spokesperson Dénes Dobó said the prosecution had indicted him in January, proposing that the Hajdúszoboszló District Court impose a fine on the defendant without a criminal record without holding a trial.

That month, the court fined the man 144,000 HUF. According to the facts established by the court, on September 2, 2019, a local resident (according to the facts: the victim) withdrew one million florins in cash from an ATM located on the esplanade of one of the bank branches in Hajdúszoboszló, but forgot the money at the opening of the ATM. The defendant noticed this and took the money home even though the bank was open so he could have given it away. Later, the police confiscated the money and returned it to the victim, for which the damage was recovered.

Upon receiving the sentence, the defendant and his lawyer filed a request for trial because the man did not admit guilt, saying that he did not take the money with the intention of stealing. However, the court order to fine the accused is final.
