The National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Health (OGYÉI) announced in a statement sent to the Index on Saturday that

authorized the home use of favipiravir following a review of the authorization file.

Favipiravir tablets are given to people with mild symptoms of coronavirus infection.

Egis started the development of drugs containing favipiravir in April 2020, and outside the OGYÉI line, it carried out the approval of various pharmaceutical preparations containing favipiravir in an accelerated procedure.

It is expected to be used in mid-January to treat patients infected with the coronavirus,

the product is managed by the state health reserve and delivered to health care providers. Favipiravir is the second drug used in Covid therapy after remdesivir and has been licensed by OGYÉI for home use.

According to a previous statement by Péter Szijjártó, millions of doses of drugs containing favipiravir have already arrived in Hungary from China and Japan, and now the use is finally authorized.

We write in the Index that the production of a Hungarian preparation of favipiravir is also in progress, the project is being led by the Center for Natural Sciences Research, Richter and Meditop, and according to our information, the production of tablets will start soon in Hungary.
