The total modernization of the tunnel in the middle section of the M3 metro line will begin on January 11. BKV Zrt. And Swietelsky Vasúttechnika Kft. They have accepted a letter of intent on the modification of the contract for the works of the tunnel of the middle section of the M3 metro line.

On January 11, the full renovation can begin in the central section of the metro line, between Oradea Square and Lehel Square, where the replacement metro buses currently run.

In its announcement, BKV states that on September 4, 2017, it entered into a contract with Swietelsky Vasúttechnika Kft. For the reconstruction of the M3 metro line tunnel for an amount of approximately HUF 48 billion. Due to the prolonged renovation of the stations in the section of the middle line, it has become necessary to establish a harmonized schedule for the construction works, in relation to which the rate and the term of the tunnel renewal contract will be modified. In the letter of intent, the contracting parties agreed to settle the additional costs of HUF 9.1 billion. A reserve of 5 per cent is available to cover the additional work, so the contract value can increase by 9.5 billion HUF, writes BKV.

Metro renovation is uncertain, only traffic chaos is safe

The agreement between BKV and the construction company is lost in the tunnel fog.

Once approved by the authorities, they can sign the contract modification now adopted to carry out the rest of the tunnel work. The center section is expected to be delivered in January 2023.
