The new coronavirus infection (Covid-19) was detected in 5,047 new Hungarian citizens, thus increasing the number of infected people identified in Hungary to 276,247. Most of the 162 deaths were chronic elderly patients, bringing the number of deaths to 6,784. The number of recovered people is also constantly growing, currently 79,769 people, the number of active infected people is 189,694. The hospital treats 7,807 coronavirus patients, 610 of them with ventilators; read at koronavirus.gov.hu.
As they write, the number of infected people continues to grow across Europe, in neighboring countries and in Hungary, with more and more people seeking hospital care. The epidemic cannot be stopped, the goal remains to stop the epidemic and protect the performance of hospitals. For this, the announced emergency protection measures are fulfilled, which will be extended by the government for one more month, so the current curfew and other protection measures will remain until January 11. The rules for the Christmas holidays will be decided on December 21 and the evening curfew will also be in effect on New Years Eve.
Starting today, the government has suspended the senior shopping time zone so that there is no tumult in stores during Christmas shopping. The suspension will remain in effect until the contrary is decided: on Friday a government decree to this effect was published in the Hungarian Gazette. Starting on Saturday, anyone can shop at grocery stores, pharmacies, and drug stores with no time limit. The suspension of the commercial zone for the elderly was initiated by national commercial organizations and agreed by the Council of Elders. It is still mandatory to wear the mask at the time of purchase. Seniors are asked to ask loved ones to shop if they can, but if you’re shopping in person, avoid crowded stores.
