Instead of fourteen, the mandatory quarantine period will be ten days from Monday – a video with this title was posted on the Hungarian Government YouTube channel. In the recording, the national chief physician Cecília Müller speaks that, based on experience to date and international practice, ten days are considered sufficient to recognize the symptoms of the coronavirus, since the incubation period is five to six days.

On Saturday, the national medical director presented information on the second wave of the epidemic and the new rules that come into effect for protection at an online press conference of the Operative Tribunal Responsible for Preventing the Coronavirus Epidemic.

The video of the press conference can be seen here:

The operational court of operational defense also met prior to the briefing of the operational court. After the meeting, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that the government will extend the moratorium on the payment of loans for groups that need protection from January 1 for another six months:

At the meeting of the Operational Personnel for Economic Protection it was stated:

  • The government will extend the credit moratorium to households for some social groups from January 1 for another six months. (Families with children, retirees, unemployed, public employees).
  • Companies must apply if they want to extend the moratorium. If their income has been reduced by more than 25 percent, they can take advantage of the moratorium.
  • The moratorium is automatically extended for children, pensioners, the unemployed and public employees. They don’t have to do anything, they have to visit their bank if they want to pay despite the moratorium.
  • In the case of home and business loans contracted by those affected before the epidemic, the government imposes a termination ban for 6 months.

According to data from Magyar Nemzeti Bank, households and businesses demanded a 40-50 percent moratorium on the loan portfolio.
