The State Health Center will be merged with OKFŐ on December 31 of this year and therefore the State Health Center will be abolished as an independent institution; the latest legislation in this regard was also published today in the Hungarian Gazette.

On behalf of the Minister of the Interior, Sándor Pintér, who also leads the operational staff, the OKFŐ came under the control of former police chiefs.

Just a week ago, Prime Minister Miklós Kásler, on a proposal from the Human Resources Minister, appointed former Police General Zoltán Jenei, a former Somogy County Police Chief, to head the hospital’s newly established OKFŐ National Director General. Zoltán Jenei was rector of the University of Pécs for a period of five years.

The task of the General Directorate of National Hospitals, now under the control of the Minister of the Interior, is to operate the health system.

OKFŐ is responsible for monitoring and examining the health care system and contributing to the development of a new unified and transparent national health management system. The General Directorate proposes the annual budget of the health institutions, manages the financing of the implementation of the tasks, but OKFŐ performs the functions of the employers on the managers and employees of the health institutions, and this institution is also in charge of the centralized public procurement and control.
